According to the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act, 1956 (SCRA) "goods" mean every kind of movable property other than actionable claims, money and securities. Commodities are mostly used as inputs in the production of other goods or services. Grains, Gold, Crude Oil, Copper, Natural Gas are some examples of commodities.

A Derivative is a financial instrument whose value is based upon the value of an underlying asset like equities, currency or commodities or other financial assets. Most common types of derivative instruments are forwards, futures, options, and swaps.

Futures Trading : The buying or selling a commodity at a predetermined price and date in the future is futures trading. Futures contracts are standardized, traded on exchanges, and require margin deposits to secure the position.

Options Trading: Options trading gives the buyer the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell a commodity at a specific price and date. Options trading can be used for hedging or speculation.
